Hello lovers of technology! It’s a pleasure to be back with you again to share yet another experience from
my technology class. This week my colleagues explored with audacity, which is a
free open source digital audio editor and recording software application
available for windows , OS X , Linux and other operating systems. Unfortunately
I missed this class but my thoughtful and caring colleagues and lecturer
informed me about what I missed.
Now let’s get right in!
I would love to acknowledge that I am beyond impressed and in love with this
software. As a foreign language teacher, it is sometimes challenging to find
interesting videos to complement my lesson. Additionally, it is sometimes
overwhelming to transform your creativity due to lack of limited or no
resources. This software afforded me the opportunity to use my own recordings
in the classroom. I learned that it is also useful for pod casting and radio, recording speeches and adverts and even practising foreign language. I didn’t know that such
a program exists. It would have been so useful couple years ago! All have not
been lost because its recent discovery is still an asset. No doubt about that.
I planned a mini lesson for my first form French class on “ Saying how old you are” by incorporating a voice recording in the form of a song using audacity .I also incorporated a power point presentation into this lesson. Both the podcast and the podcast script can be accessed below :

I had a lot of problems with operating the
software because of my device. My pc doesn’t have a microphone and I didn’t
recognize that that was the problem at first, so I was unable to record which
lead to my frustration.
What I would like to know
is how to combine different tracks or recordings into one mix. I haven’t quite
gotten the gist.
I implore all of you teachers,
musicians, lovers of music, singers, aspiring djs etc to explore this software.
It is free and has so much to offer.
