Reflection Two (2) : Planning ( Assure Model & Media)
As an advocate of that quote in the picture above , I anticipated the second technology class with excitement. I knew that planning was important on the part of the teacher to ensure that he/she is well prepared to meet the diverse needs of each individual student, while doing so in the most effective and efficient manner. Planning also helps the teacher to use the allotted time to accomplish the goals and objectives of the lesson. It is the foundation and can be likened to a map which acts as a guide or direction. I learnt that the Assure model is an instructional system design process in which teachers and trainers can use to design and develop the most appropriate learning environment for their students.
I learnt that there are six (6) components of the model which are as follows:
1) analyze learners
2) state the objectives of the lesson
3) select media
4) utilize media and materials
5) require learner participation and
6) evaluate and revise
I learnt equally that media is the tools used to facilitate the teacher in achieving her objectives of the lesson. It can be in the form of a video, an audio, text book ,etc.
What stood out the most in this lesson was the ABCD objectives. I am of the opinion that every teacher should use this as a model when writing their objectives for the lesson. I will briefly explain each acronym here:
A - audience ( the learners, persons at the receiving end of the instruction)
B- Behaviour ( what is the desired behaviour? what are the learners' ability ?). The behavior can The “behavior” can include demonstration of knowledge or skills in any of the domains of learning: cognitive, psychomotor, affective, or interpersonal .
C- conditon (equipment used to achieve a behaviour or the environment .
D- degree( looks at the extent by which the objectives are being achieved. It also looks at the standard of acceptable performance)
The assure lesson plan seeks to cater to the diverse needs of learners in recognizing the different learning styles. These include:
1) auditory learner - use of speech, listening to audios or even visuals with audio
2) visual learmers - prefer seeing .The use of images , pictures and videos are useful to this type of learner
3) Kinesthetic/tactile - Bodily movements and touch are common characteristics of those type of learning style.
A great lesson plan is one that uses a variety of methods ,targeting the individual needs of the learner to ensure that learning takes place .Integrating ICT in the classroom can help us teachers to achieve desired behaviors by catering to the learning needs of the students. A visual or audio learner will appreciate seeing audio - video. For example teaching about French culture in the classroom can be enhanced by immersing the students in that culture with aid of a video or even an audio.
I really enjoyed this class and as a teacher i hope to integrate technology into my classroom and lesson plan every opportunity i get to do so.

Hello,
ReplyDeleteIt is great to see that you have appreciated the purpose of Lesson Planning.
What are the Learning Styles, discussed in class, that the Assure Model caters for?
I really like that you attached that quote because it actually speaks volume
