Reflection Three (3) : Bloom's Taxanomy and Word Processing sofware

Hey lovers of technology! It’s the third week of classes and I have a confession “I’m in love with my EDET course”. I know you’ve been waiting on an update so here goes. In this session I learnt about Bloom’s six levels of learning, both the old and revised version. The old model uses nouns as opposed to the new model which uses verbs. Here’s a representation of the six levels in the form of a pyramid below.

Additionally I learnt about the three (3) main domains of Bloom’s taxonomy :

1) the cognitive domain (mental skills , knowledge) ,

2) the psychomotor domain ( manual or physical skills) and

3) the affective domain (growth in feelings or emotional areas )

I also got the opportunity to be creative and expressive while working on the KWL chart . The “K” stands for what did I Know before each lesson, the ‘w” stands for what I did not know and what I still want to know as a result of each session and the “L” stands for what did I learn in each lesson.

Word processing software can be used as a teaching tool, in that it provides the teacher with a diversity of methods to present information .I created a KWL chart in Microsoft word, which was saved as both a Microsoft and pdf format. The same chart was created in excel and PowerPoint. I was flexible with my chart .In Microsoft word I changed the font size and colour for each letters.

What I loved most about the class, was the information I learnt about Bloom’s taxonomy because it provides a guideline for me as a teacher to follow and integrate into my classroom. I particular liked that the taxonomy represents the goals of the learning process , which means that at the end of the lesson , the learner (s) should acquire a new skill , attitude or knowledge or there should be a change in the three. I am hoping that fellow teachers can appreciate this model .

The only drawback to the lesson was  lack of access to the internet , however this did not affect the lesson for the most part.
